Tja - da werden jetzt einige Aua! schreien - aber ich war von dem neuen (naja, nicht mehr ganz so brandneuen) Album ziemlich enttäuscht.

Gut - schlecht ist es ja nicht... aaaaaber..

Als ich die Promo in die Finger bekam, bin ich gleich zum CD-Player gehechtet - und dann...

naaaaaajaaaaaa - die Freude hielt sich in Grenzen. “Dream on” und “Dead of Night” sind ja wirklich nicht zu verachten... bestens geeignet für die Tanzfläche - gelungene Stücke, die sich von den synthie pop-Klängen gelöst haben und schön heftig daher kommen   -    aaaber...sagen wir mal, der alte klassische “Egal was sie machen - es ist von Depeche Mode! Das muß gut sein!”-Standard ist mit diesem Album irgendwie nicht so richtig erreicht worden. Der Rest  zieht sich denn doch etwas monoton dahin - vor allem “Shine” und “Comatose” (Nomen est omen!) fand ich ziemlich einschläfernd..

“When the body speaks”... softer Balladenstoff... wieder mal was Ruhiges - und wo bleiben die eingängigen Sachen, damit der DJ auch was zu tun hat? *jammer*...”Lovetheme” hat mich dann völlig in deprimierten Schlummer versenkt...

Ja, gut, warum sollen die Jungs nicht auch mal was leicht Tranciges und Ruhigeres machen... und wenn ich die Band nicht schon früher kennen und lieben gelernt hätte, wärs mir vielleicht auch egal...aber so... *schnüff*... wohlwollende Kritiken versteigen sich auffällig oft zu Ausdrücken wie “mellow” - “mature” - “growing up” und sogar “easing gracefully into middle age”... das sollte uns ja schon alles sagen...

All right - now plenty people might start to shout at me... but I felt really disappointed when I listened to that new album for the first time.

No - it´s definitely not bad - BUUUUUT

when I got the promo, I practically jumped to my soundsystem - and then...

Well, I wasn´t exactly beside myself with joy. “Dream on” and “Dead of night” are really good songs and bound to make it to the dancefloor - having abandoned the synthpop elements for some more heavy and thumpy sounds - but well, if one thinks of the the good old “I don´t care what sort of songs they produce - they are Depeche Mode so they are prone to being gorgeous”-standard - then the new album is not exactly up to scratch. The rest of it dwadles around in a quite monotone way - especially “Shine” and “Comatose” (aptly named!) made me feel really dozy.

“When the body speaks” is a soft ballad - something overly quiet again - and where is some stuff that will hook the crowd so that the DJ gets a chance? *Whines* “Lovetheme” finally sent me to depressed slumber...

Well, right, why shouldn´t the guys produce some outchilling and peaceful stuff... if I hadn´t known and loved them previously, I probably wouldn´t care - but as I have - *sniffs*

Benevolent critics use quite frequently expressions like “mellow”, “mature”, “growing up” and even “easing gracefully into middle age” - quite significant, if you ask me.

One consoling thought: I am no longer feeling depressed about not having been able to lay hands on a concert ticket...
